As you know, I am opposed to expansion at Heathrow Airport because aircraft noise from a new flight path over Kingston and New Malden (where there is none at present), and the additional road traffic associated with 200,000+ additional flights each year, will have a negative impact on local residents’ lives.
I accept that we need additional airport capacity in the South East by my view remains that Gatwick is the best option because it can be delivered more quickly and more cheaply than Heathrow, while also boosting the economy.
The government has not made a final decision on Heathrow and cannot do until it has completed a 16 week public consultation on the National Policy Statement. If you have a view on Heathrow expansion, please respond to the consultation. You can respond by post using the freepost address FREEPOST RUNWAY CONSULTATION. If you need special assistance responding to the consultation, you can call on 0800 689 4968.
The Department for Transport is holding a local consultation event in Kingston on Wednesday 15 February at Kingston University on Penrhyn Road from 11.00 to 20.00. Please do go to the event to find out more information or ask questions.
One thing you might like to ask about is the proposed new flight paths – these do not feature in the consultation document, but you can see the current and proposed flight paths that Heathrow Airport themselves submitted to the Airports Commission which I published on my website.
